HOW IT HAPPENED
- A basket by McGaughnea followed by two quick layups by Melissa D'Oleo saw the Monarchs up 6-2 in the beginning stages of the game. The Seahawks then scored the next nine points to go up 11-6.
- Two big threes by Jessica Drake and Jillian Peterson helped Methodist to get back within one, 13-12. The Monarchs would outscore St. Mary's 6-5 to end the quarter for a tied score of 18-18.
- Methodist retook the advantage after scoring the first five points of the new period. The Monarchs controlled the lead for majority of the second before the Seahawks knocked down two three-pointers in the final minute to take a 35-31 halftime edge.
- Midway through the third Methodist was still in the game by only being down five, after Peterson hit a shot from behind the arc. Twice in the final five minutes of the frame, St. Mary's used 7-0 runs to stretch the gap in the score.
- An early layup by the Seahawks increased their lead to 15, 55-40. The Monarch got back into the game by going on a 10-0 run, six by Jordan Langston and four by Kiley Hicks. That was the best Methodist could do get to the lead before St. Mary's brought their advantage back to double-digits.
