GREENSBORO, N.C. Methodist opened its men's soccer season Sunday at Greensboro College, falling to the host Pride, 5-2, in a high-scoring USA South Athletic Conference matchup at rainy Pride Field.
A converted penalty kick in the 39th minute by Greensboro's Jordy Briceno proved to be the game-winner, breaking a 2-2 tie after Methodist had stormed back from an early two-goal deficit.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Greensboro scored twice in the opening fifteen minutes of action, but Monarch goals from Declan Cutler in the 30th minute and Christopher Shoffler in the 33rd evened the score at 2-2.
- Greensboro seized back the advantage with the PK conversion by Briceno, then added two more goals in the second half to ice away its victory.
MATCH NOTES
- Game action was hotly contested, not only on the scoreboard but on the pitch as well, with two red cards and seven yellow cards charged to Greensboro players, and four yellows in the Methodist statistics final.
- Cutler's goal was a header that came off a set piece, with Caleb Allen getting the assist on the corner kick opportunity.
- Shoffler's marker was an unassisted goal from just above the penalty arc. His shot, following a midfield turnover by the Pride, rocketed just under the crossbar, center net.
