FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's basketball matched up against N.C. Wesleyan in USA South Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon and the visiting Battling Bishops remained undefeated in league play with a 72-40 win over the Monarchs in the Riddle Center.
The contest was the 15th annual Play 4 Kay event hosted by Methodist women's basketball, which aims to honor and support those who have survived or are battling breast cancer. All proceeds from the event go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Battling Bishops came out strong from the opening tip, scoring the first basket and jumping out to a 10-2 lead en route to a 19-9 score entering the second quarter. N.C. Wesleyan scored 21 points in the second quarter to lead 40-17 at intermission.
- Methodist's best stretch of basketball came in the fourth quarter via an 8-0 run. Tay Hamilton hit the first two three-pointers of her Methodist career, which came on consecutive possessions off assists from Jessica Drake and Aniyah Tate, respectively.
- The Monarchs' five made threes tied a season-high for 2021. Kadie Snipes hit consecutive threes in the third quarter, one off an assist from Drake and the other off a steal and an assist from LeTrice Pearson.
GAME NOTES
- 10 different Methodist players scored, led by Snipes' 11 points. Snipes was three-of-six from three, tying her season-high in three-pointers made.
- Tyzarea Alexander had a team-high nine rebounds with eight points. Drake led the team with five assists and Tate's four steals were a team-high.
- The biggest advantage that the Battling Bishops had was in the paint, they outscored Methodist, 40-16, in points in the paint. Cydney Nichols led N.C. Wesleyan with 20 points.

- Methodist's next series is against William Peace University. The Monarchs travel to Raleigh, N.C., for a Friday, February 26 matchup at 6 p.m. before hosting the Pacers on Sunday, February 28 at 2 p.m.
- The Battling Bishops will look to complete its undefeated conference slate with a home game against Meredith on February 26 at 7:30 p.m. before going on the road against the Avenging Angels on February 28 at 2 p.m.
