Monarchs Score Season-High 60 in Loss

RALEIGH, N.C.  The Monarchs scored a season-high 60 points, but it was not enough as an explosive second half for William Peace clinched a 107-60 win over visiting Methodist women's basketball in USA South Athletic Conference play Friday evening.
Tyzarea Alexander (17), Kadie Snipes (11), and Jessica Drake (9) all set or tied season-highs. The 25 points Methodist scored in the second quarter are the most for the Monarchs through 33 quarters this year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs opened the second quarter on a 11-2 run to cut a 22-10 deficit to a 24-21 score. The run featured Tay Hamilton and Snipes 3's, along with baskets from Jazanae Billings and Aniyah Tate. At the 3:44 mark of the quarter, the Monarchs' hard work paid off with a Drake trey that gave Methodist its first lead (30-29 score) since its opening basket. The Pacers closed out the half with an 11-5 run.
  • With William Peace leading 40-35 entering the third quarter, the Pacers opened the quarter on an 11-2 run en route to scoring 33 points in the third frame and 34 in the final one. Altogether, William Peace outscored Methodist, 67-25, in the second half.
  • The game was tied at 6-6 before the Pacers went on an 11-0 run to take control early.
GAME NOTES
  • Methodist shot 9-of-19 from the field (47 percent) and 4-of-8 from 3-point land in the second quarter. Eight different Monarchs scored in the frame, led by Hamilton and Tate each scoring five points.
  • The 22 field goals made and nine three-pointers were also season-highs for the Monarchs. Alexander made seven of those 22 field goals and Drake (3-for-3 from behind the arc) and Snipes (3-for-7) each made a trio of 3's.
  • Tate had a team-high nine rebounds plus five points. Alexander had a team-high four assists, to go along with eight boards.
  • Sydney Austin led the William Peace with 18 points, one of five Pacers in double digits.

  • Methodist hosts the Pacers on Sunday, February 28 at 2 p.m. in the Riddle Center.
