HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the 'away' team swept their doubles matches, they picked up singles wins at Nos. 1,2, 4, 5 and 6, each in straight sets.
  • Hannah Higgins at No. 4 and Sydney Bird at No. 5 won without surrendering a game, while Valeria Matute at 1-singles only gave up two and Luciana Forma at No. 2 only surrendered three.
  • Though the home match was clinched early in singles action, four of the six singles bouts went to third-set super-tiebreaks.
  • Tori Laney, who had teamed up with Taylor Jackson for a doubles victory, was the first to finish during singles play, rolling to a quick 6-2, 6-1 triumph at 2-singles.
  • The clinching point came soon after with Abby Caddick -- a doubles winner with Sydni Lewis -- taking a 6-2, 6-4 win over Averett's Louise Hovhammar at No. 1.
  • Kamdyn Balko at No. 6 (6-2, 4-6, 1-0(1)) and Jill Lawrence at No. 3 (4-6, 6-2, 1-0(8)) won their third-set tiebreaks, but Olivia Ward at 5-singles and Megan Kidd at No. 4 had to accept narrow, two-point tiebreak defeats.
