HOW IT HAPPENED
- Singles action was a draw as each team captured one of the six singles bouts.
- The difference in the team scoring began, then, in doubles action where the Hornets earned two of three points.
- Toni Laney and Taylor Jackson made quick work of their opponents in the 2-doubles slot, earning a solid 8-1 win.
- The matches at Nos. 1 and 3 were more competitive, but turned Lynchburg's way. At No. 1, Christina Harris and Lauren Pascadlo teamed up to take an 8-6 win over Methodist's Abby Caddick and Sydni Lewis. And in the 3-doubles slot, it was the Hornets duo of Elizabeth Teefey and Alexa Hardesty that outlasted the Monarchs' Jill Lawrence and Kamdyn Balko, 8-5.
- Laney picked up her second point of the afternoon in singles, scoring a resounding 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Lynchburg's Teefey.
- Megan Kidd and Balko also won in straight sets for Methodist's other two singles points. Kidd pounded out a 3 and 1 win over Pascadlo at No. 4, and Balko won a second-set tiebreak in her 6-2, 7-6(2) victory in the No. 5 spot.
- The only singles match to extend to a third set was at No. 6, where Lynchburg's Caroline Guill fought to a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 triumph over the Monarchs' Valeria Matute.
