FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. A near-sweep of the singles bouts and a 2-of-3 afternoon in doubles play led to a Methodist 7-2 victory over visiting Sweet Briar College Sunday afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist broke out of the gates with a shutout for its first point of the afternoon, getting an 8-0 win at 3-doubles from Jill Lawrence and Kamdyn Balko.
- Soon after, Toni Laney and Taylor Jackson notched another point with their 8-3 victory in the No. 2 slot.
- Sweet Briar claimed a point at the 1-doubles position, but the match turned back in Methodist's favor once the singles players hit the courts, beginning with Valeria Matute's perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
- Lawrence, with a 2 and 2 win at No. 3, added the fourth point for Methodist, which got the clinching point from Balko at No. 5 in a 1 and 4 triumph.
- Laney added a second point to her day with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2, and the final Monarch point was recorded by Megan Kidd who, too, went three sets in winning 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (5) at No. 4.
UP NEXT
Methodist will host Chowan University on Saturday, March 6, followed by a match against visiting Piedmont on Sunday. Both are non-conference contests.
