ASHLAND, Va. Methodist was unable to get its attack in gear Sunday, dropping a 17-1 non-conference women's lacrosse decision to host Randolph-Macon College at Day Fuekd Stadium.
Keegan Foyles netted the goal for Methodist, on a free position opportunity, but that lone marker came after an 11-0 run by R-MC to start the game.
THE ESSENTIALS
Final score: Randolph-Macon def. Methodist, 17-1
Records: Methodist 0-2, Randolph-Macon 1-0
Location: Day Fuekd Stadium; Ashland, Va.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Methodist defense held the Yellow Jackets to just a pair of goals in the opening seven minutes of action.
- Four goals in the next 87 seconds broke open the game, however.
- Foyles' goal came with 10:50 to go in the opening half, and hoped to spur a surge in momentum for the Monarchs, but that flip never happened as Methodist was held scoreless the remainder of the game.
FAST FACTS
- As often said, win the draw, win the game. And R-MC's advantage in draw controls, 16-5, allowed that adage to hold true.
- Foyles' free position goal was the only free position opportunity of the game for the Monarchs.
- Starting goalkeeper Jem Golombeski and Ashley Fuentes, who took over to start the second half, combined for 10 saves, with Golombeski registering eight of them in her 30 minutes of action.
- Payton Jones and Page Camerson each registered one caused turnover.
UP NEXT
The Monarchs will return to Virginia for the next game, a non-conference bout Saturday, March 6 at Sweet Briar College.
