Methodist Dominant on the Road

SWEET BRIAR, Va.  Methodist women's lacrosse scored the first nine goals of the game on its way to an 18-1 near-perfect non-conference win Saturday at Sweet Briar College.

The opening four markers were from Keegan Foyles, who finished with six on the day.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. Sweet Briar, 18-1
Records: Methodist 1-2, Sweet Briar 0-4
Location: SBC Lacrosse Field; Sweet Briar, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarch scoring run wasn't an immediate advantage after the opening draw, but once Foyles broke the seal with an unassisted goal at the 26:56 mark, the flood gates opened.
  • During the 9-0 start, Foyles notched five goals, Mikayla Ramos scored twice, and Kayla Nee and Payton Jones added one each.
  • Sweet Briar's Jess Roberts ended the Monarch string, but it would be the only one of just six Vixens shots on goal -- three in each half -- that would find the netting behind Methodist goalkeepers Ashley Fuentes and Jem Golombeski.
  • An 11-1 lead at recess began growing again seven minutes into second-half action when Rosa Williams scored what was the first of two goals in the victory.
MORE TO IT
  • Methodist was dominant across all phases of the contest, piling up a 17-3 edge in draw controls, a 34-6 advantage in total shots, a 23-13 edge in ground balls and scoring on 4 of its 6 free position opportunities.
  • Ainsley McGinn finished the outing with a game-high five draw wins for Methodist, and Nee came up with a game-best five ground ball scoops.
  • The Monarchs racked up 26 caused turnovers from 13 different players, with four of them forcing three each.
  • Fuentes earned the win in goal for Methodist, coming up with two saves, with Golombeski taking over at halftime and pocketing three saves during her scoreless 30 minutes between the pipes.
