WILMINGTON, N.C. Jake Patterson is having a noteworthy start to his 2021 outdoor track season, winning the discus event Friday at the 2021 Wendy's Seahawk Navy Invitational with a new personal best of 40.73 meters (133 feet-7 inches), and also breaking the personal record (PR) he had registered one week ago in the hammer throw.
His hammer toss of 40.48m (132-10) was a fourth-place throw and bested the 40.18m toss he had at the Susan Rouse Invitational.

- New PRs were almost the order of the day in Wilmington. Included in Friday's results were new personal bests by:
- Drew Topoly - 800m (2nd place, 1 minute, 59.44 seconds)
- Connor Ayers - 1,500m (4th, 4:19.97); 800 (5th, 2:04.55)
- Austin Ezzell - 1,500m (5th, 4:22.61); 800 (6th, 2:05.42)
- Makayla Lawler - 1,500m (4th, 4:57.04); 800m (5th, 2:31.86)
- Courtney Drumm - 1,500 (7th, 5:06.98)
- Ethan Ward - 200m (11th, 23.21 seconds); 100m (13th, 11.34)
- Hannah Williams - shot put (11th, 7.39m/24-3)
- In addition, the quartet of Ezzell, Brendan Douglas, Richard Staley and Stephen Dukes raced to a season-best time of 3:36.82 with their third-place finish in the men's 4x400m relay.
