HOW IT HAPPENED.
- The raucous second quarter by Methodist preceded a quiet first period where each team scored one goal. The Monarchs scored the first seven goals of the second stanza. Five goals were scored in a three-minute span to turn a 2-1 advantage into a 7-1 game.
- The first goal of the run was all Jesse Leyble as he caused the Averett turnover, recovered the ground ball, and scored five seconds later. Methodist goals #5 (by Mark Chatt) and #6 (Matt Pemberton) came 10 seconds apart, directly after Harrison Williams won his faceoffs. Carter Favreau and Leyble took advantage of man-up situations with goals to give Methodist an 8-1 lead en route to the 9-3 halftime score. Pemberton scored three goals in the second quarter while Favreau and Leyble each scored two.
- A dominant third quarter effectively eliminated all hopes of an Averett miracle as the Monarchs held the Cougars without a goal while Favreau, Hunter Vaughan, Ryan Kavounis, Matthew Sheinfeld, and Kit Allman piled onto the score. The two teams played to a 5-5 draw in the fourth period.
