Praylow and Moore Race Monarchs to Best Start Since 1997

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Kobe Praylow tallied 371 all-purpose yards and Jamaar Moore broke a school single-game record with four touchdown catches to defeat visiting Greensboro College, 52-20, in USA South Athletic Conference action Friday evening.

The win moves Methodist to 4-0, giving the Monarchs their best start to a season since 1997. The 9-1 overall record in that 1997 campaign is still the Monarchs' best season-to-date.

Praylow amassed those 371 yards on just 14 touches. He had four punt returns of 179 yards, with a long of 58, three kick returns for 106 yards and a long of 71 yards, and two rushes for 61 yards (long of 57), plus 25 yards receiving on five catches. Moore had six catches for 101 yards and four touchdowns.

THE ESSENTIALS
Final score: Methodist def. Greensboro, 52-20
Records: Methodist 4-0 (3-0 USA South), Greensboro 0-2 (0-1)
Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Despite not scoring a touchdown, Praylow had a direct influence on 24 of the Monarchs' 52 points. A 71-yard kick return set up the Monarchs' first touchdown and a 57-yard punt return gave Methodist the ball at the Pride's four-yard line before a touchdown. A 57-yard rush set up a third-quarter Moore touchdown on the following play and a Trevor Hargett field goal (30 yards) was preceded by a 58-yard punt return, which set Methodist up at the Pride's 12-yard line. The Monarchs also started a drive at Greensboro's 15-yard line after Praylow's 45-yard punt return but Methodist failed to convert.
  • Brandon Bullins and his wide receivers have clearly spent extra time in practice working on the fade route. Four of Bullins' five touchdown passes came via fade routes. The first touchdown was a five-yard fade to Moore, and he found Moore on the same route again for 11-yard and 20-yard touchdowns in the third quarter as the Monarchs' lead swelled to 42-20. Xzavier McNeil joined in on the fade train in the second quarter, with a 19-yard score that gave the Monarchs a 21-13.
  • After showing off his accuracy on the fade route, Bullins used his mobility to buy some time in the pocket before he threw a 53-yard bomb to a wide-open Moore for a touchdown. The ball traveled 51 air yards (from the line of scrimmage to the point of reception) to reach Moore and give the Monarchs a 14-13 advantage, a lead they never relinquished.
  • Greensboro provided a shock to the Monarchs' system with two rapid-fire touchdowns in the first quarter. The Pride's Ja'Xavier Legaire caught the Methodist defense napping and took a screen 44 yards for the game's opening touchdown. Zach Atkinson gave Greensboro a 13-7 lead after he broke a tackle and raced 60 yards for the score. A missed tackle led to the Pride's Jeremiah Harris racing for an 80-yard touchdown in the first drive of the second half, which cut the deficit to 28-20.
STAT FACTS
  • This is the Monarchs' first four-game winning streak since Methodist won its final six games of the 2013 season.
  • Bullins completed 17-of-28 passes for 188 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. Keyshaun Pete led a rushing attack that ran for 196 yards as a team. Pete had 81 yards rushing on 11 carries, including a 33-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter as the "cherry" on top. Plus Praylow's 61 yards rushing, Tyquan Eaddy added 50 yards on 10 carries.
  • DaQuinton Grady led with eight total tackles, including four solo stops and a sack. Khalil Patterson added seven tackles, 2.5 stops for a loss, and two more sacks to his season total. Josh Hill and Nate Jones added interceptions for Methodist.
  • The Pride racked up 184 on their three touchdown plays and 132 yards total on their other 55 plays. Greensboro finished with minus-4 yards rushing on 26 carries.
