FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist men's tennis continued its pre-conference slate of taking on Division I and II programs above the Monarchs' D-III level, on Saturday falling to visiting College of Charleston by a 9-0 count at the Clayton Tennis Center.

Methodist so far this spring has taken on the likes of The Citadel, twice, the University of Richmond, and D-II Barton College, twice, and the University of Mount Olive.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Charleston def. Methodist, 9-0
Records: Methodist 3-9, Charleston 5-4
Location: Clayton Tennis Center; Fayetteville, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs played a couple of competitive matches during doubles action. Jordan Theron and Patrick Newsome were defeated, 8-6, at the No. 1 spot, and AJ Rogers and E.J. Stolmeijer teamed up for a close 8-5 loss at 2-doubles.
  • Singles action leaned heavily in the Cougars' favor, with straight-set wins at Nos. 2-6. However the battle at No. 1 nearly tilted back to the Monarchs.
  • Theron took the first set, 6-3, from Charleston's Noah Borges, who evened the match with a 6-4 win in the second. The last players on the courts at the Tennis Center by that time, Theron and Borges played into a third-set tiebreak, won by Borges with a score of 10-7.
