HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 2-1 in the top of the second inning of Game 2, three consecutive walks loaded the bases for the Monarchs with just one out on the board. Casey Nichols and Dagenhart recording RBIs to score two and Austin scored them with a double to right field for a 5-2 lead.
- Methodist added two more runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth. An infield error and a Wesley Hall sacrifice fly were responsible for the runs in the fifth and three consecutive hits (Nichols-Dagenhart-Austin) in the sixth loaded the bases and led to three eventual runs in the sixth. Jordan Cassell, Rob Wilkerson, and Hall (with another sacrifice fly) got credited with the RBIs.
- N.C. Wesleyan started the day with two runs off of two doubles and a single in the first inning of Game 1. Spencer Nelson countered with an RBI double of his own to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second inning.
- The Battling Bishops scored five runs in the middle innings, owning an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Four hits turned into three runs in the fifth inning.
- Methodist scored a run in each of the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings but it was not enough to overcome the middle innings explosion by N.C. Wesleyan. The Monarchs also left seven runners on base in the final four innings, including a one-out, bases-loaded situation in the sixth when the deficit was 6-3.
