CENTRAL, S.C. Makayla Lawler set a new Methodist University record on Saturday, racing to a winning time of 10 minutes, 33.94 seconds in the women's 3,000-meter run at the Susan Rousse Invitational.
The old outdoor record of 10:50.00 was set by Cathy O'Niel in 1988. Lawler last winter posted an indoor (banked surface) time of 10:41.81, but this is her first time under the old record at an outdoor competition.

- Lawler placed second in the women's 1,500 with a time of 5:00.41.
- In addition to Lawler's record in the 3,000, teammate Caroline Stubblefield set a new personal record in the event, clocking 11:24.78 for a seventh-place finish.
- Drew Topoly recorded collegiate bests in both the men's 1,500 and 3,000. He was third overall in the 3,000 with a time of 9:06.39, and sixth in the 1,500 (4:13.05).
- Teammate Connor Ayers (9:28.90) was sixth in the 3,000, just one second off his collegiate best, and finished 11th in the 1,500 (4:20.78).
- Jake Patterson recorded a personal best in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 40.18m (131 feet-10 inches), a distance that bested his previous PR by 5.98 meters.
- Cameron Schwartz hit a new collegiate best in the men's javelin, posting a best throw of 43.80m (143-8) for a fifth-place finish in the event.
