MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. The Methodist men's and women's track and field teams made the trip to the University of Mount Olive on Saturday for the host school's annual Trojan Relays meet.
Connor Ayers posted the first personal record (PR) of the day for a Monarch, finishing second in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a new PR of 10 minutes, 23.46 seconds.
Ayers would later go on to post a new PR in the 800m (2:04.28), as would teammate
William Gray (2:11.70).
In one of the longer events,
Drew Topoly posted a new collegiate best time in the men's 5,000, finishing fourth in a time of 16:03.70.
Richard Staley enjoyed a strong day at the meet, setting a PR in the 400 (52.61 seconds), and in the 200 (23.05) as well. Teammate
AJ Matthews also set a PR in the 200 (23.31) and the 100 (11.49).
Makayla Lawler barely missed a PR in the women's 1,500 with a third-place time of 4:51.16, a scant 0.19 seconds of a new best.
Madison Pompey, however, did achieve a new PR on Saturday, posting a time of 1:07.08 in the women's 400.
In the field events,
Cameron Schwartz placed third in the men's javelin with a new PR of 45.58 meters,
Hannah Williams set a PR in the women's discus (24.96m), and
Kodi Centry set a new best in the women's shot put with a toss of 10.29m.

The Monarchs will have one last tune-up meet – the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic at the University of Lynchburg on April 17 – before the USA South Athletic Conference championship meet on Wednesday, April 28.
