MISENHEIMER, N.C. Methodist softball dealt Pfeiffer University a blow with a 5-3 victory in the first game but the host Falcons did recover with a 5-0 win in Game 2 to split the USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Alyssa Barwick recorded her first collegiate win in the pitcher's circle by allowing just two earned runs and striking out four in the complete game. Meanwhile, the four runs that the Monarchs scored in the third inning were enough for the Game 1 win.
Caitlyn Holland's hit that scored two to give Methodist a 4-1 lead ended up being the decisive blow in the contest.

GAME NOTES
- The first three batters in the third inning of Game 1 for Methodist all reached safely to load the bases with no outs. The Falcons recorded outs on consecutive plays at home plate without surrendering a run. However, the Monarchs would not be denied. A wild pitch scored Taylor Jones, an RBI-single from Heather Tsapp scored Bethany Junker, and Holland added two RBIs with a single that scored Tsapp and Taylor Bowen for a 4-1 lead.
- The fifth Methodist run came in the fifth when McKenzie Lanphear drew a walk to send Bowen home although the Monarchs did leave the bases loaded in the inning.
- After an infield Methodist error, Pfeiffer scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 5-3. With two outs and runners on first and second base, Barwick forced a lineout to preserve the win.
- Game 2 was scoreless for three and a half innings before Pfeiffer got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. After two singles to lead the inning off, the Falcons used two sacrifice bunts and an outfield error to score two. In the fifth, a three-run homer from Caiti Mickles turned a 2-0 score into a 5-0 lead.
- Bowen and Holland each had two hits in the first game. Tsapp and Liz Schmitz recorded a hit and a walk in Game 1. Taylor Jones led the team, going 2-for-4 in the second game. Bowen, Reagan Parks, and Sara Darling also recorded hits in Game 2, including a Darling double.
