RALEIGH, N.C. It was a third conference win of the season for the Methodist women's tennis team, as the Monarchs downed host Meredith College, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon in a USA South Athletic Conference match at the Meredith Tennis Complex.
Methodist swept the three doubles matches for a 3-0 lead, then got the clinching point for the team victory in a 6-0, 6-0 win by
Valeria Matute at No. 5 singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs won in commanding fashion at all three doubles spots. Jill Lawrence and Kamdyn Balko earned the first point with an 8-0 win at 3-doubles, followed by an 8-2 victory at No. 1 by Toni Laney and Taylor Jackson. The sweep was complete with an 8-1 win from Abby Caddick and Sydni Lewis at No. 2.
- Olivia Ward picked up the fourth Methodist point of the match, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rachel Scott Dunn at 6-singles, allowing Matute to then add the clinching fifth point.
- It was a sweep for the Monarchs in the other four singles spots as Caddick, Laney, Lawrence and Megan Kidd all won in straight sets at Nos. 1-4, respectively.
NET NOTES
- Since 2010, the Monarchs are 15-1 against the Avenging Angels.
- In its three conference matches so far this spring, Methodist has defeated their USA South opponents by scores of 9-0, 8-1 and 9-0.
