FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist University Vice President and Director of Athletics
Dave Eavenson is pleased to announce two new inductees into the Monarch Hall of Fame.
Colette Gilligan '93 and
John Storms '90 will join the Hall as the Class of 2021.
Gilligan is a three-time All-American, earning first-team honors in 1992 and second-team selections in 1990 and 1993. She also garnered first-team All-DIAC (Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) honors three times (1990, 1992 and 1993). Second all-time in program history (as of her 2021 induction) with 33 career assists, Gilligan produced 12 assists in both the 1989 and 1993 seasons to rank fifth on the Monarchs' single-season record listing.
Storms completed an illustrious career for the Methodist cross country and track and field teams as a four-time All-American and a six-time NCAA qualifier — fifth at the 1989 NCAA cross country championship; second in the 1,500-meter run at the 1988 indoor national meet and fourth in the 1,500 at the outdoor meet; and sixth in the 1,500 at the 1989 outdoor championship. He captured individual Mason-Dixon Conference titles at the 1987 and 1988 cross country championships; won the 1,000 and mile at the 1988 and 1990 indoor conference meets; and captured the 1,500 title at the 1989 outdoor championship. His performance at the 1990 indoor conference championship earned him the meet's MVP honor. Upon his graduation he owned the MU records in the 8K and 10K in cross country; the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 in outdoor track (as of his 2021 induction, the records in the 800, 1,500 and 5,000 still stand); and the 1,500 and mile in indoor track.
The Class of 2021 lifts the Hall of Fame to 103 inductees, having passed the century mark with the Class of 2020's four inductees, who will also be honored at the 2021 induction ceremony.
Details of the ceremony, expected to be over the Homecoming weekend, will be released at a later date.
