SALEM, VA. Methodist men's soccer took a tough non-conference loss in the first game of the Roanoke Invitational, falling to host Roanoke College, 6-0, Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tyler Hinton found himself with a chance to put the Monarchs on the board, as he rifled a shot to the bottom, center of the net. Unfortunately, Maroons keeper Christian Mercadante was there to make the only save needed in the game for his team.
- All four of Methodist's goalkeepers saw action this afternoon. Jacob Rivera and Zachary Butrite were the only two, though, to record a save, one and two respectively.
- A penalty kick in the 11th minute gave Roanoke the lead, and they never looked back from there.
- The Maroons would score twice more in the first half, before getting three more scores in the second half.
NUMBERS
- Roanoke outshot Methodist 21-2, including 9-1 in shots on goal.
- The Maroons dominated the possession game, as they had nine corners while keeping the Monarchs from any of those set-piece opportunities.
- Methodist edged out Roanoke in saves by a margin of 3-1.

Methodist will stay in Salem to play their second game of the Roanoke Invitational, Saturday against Christopher Newport University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
