Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Methodist earns first road win of the season

SWANNANOA, N.C.  Methodist's men's soccer secured a 2-1 non-conference victory Thursday evening over host Warren Wilson, as Hudson Zeisman netted both goals for the Monarchs.

JUST THE FACTS
Final Score: Methodist def. Warren Wilson, 2-1
Records: Methodist 2-4, Warren Wilson 0-6
Location: Duggins Soccer Stadium; Swannanoa, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The initial eight minutes of the first half saw the Monarchs on the offensive and pushing the ball multiple times into the Owls zone, in the seventh minute finally connecting on one of those attacks.
  • Christopher Shoffler fired off a cross from the left touch line to the back post where Collin Hinnant was unmarked and able to dish a header back toward the left post. Ziesman went airborne and flicked a header past the keeper for a 1-0 lead at the 6:18 mark.
  • Shoffler and Zeisman would also be involved in the second Monarchs goal. Shoffler gained possession on the left side almost to the goal line before saucering a low lob across the goal to Zeisman for the one timer that gave Methodist a 2-0 advantage before halftime.
  • A little over ten minutes into the second half, Warren Wilson was able to answer. The ball was played into the Monarchs' box, where neither side could gain control. Leonardo Borges, of the Owls, was able to find the ball and drill it into the net.
  • Twice Methodist almost increased their lead to three. Both of the Monarch shots hit the post and Warren Wilson was able to clear away the threats.
GAME NOTES
  • Methodist had a glaring superiority in possession, earning a 2-0 advantage in corner kick chances, a 17-4 advantage in total shots, and an 11-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Monarchs piled up four yellow cards in the contest, to two by Warren Wilson.
  • The Owls led the game in saves by registering nine in the loss.
