FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Sophomore
Jessica Drake dropped a career-high 29 points as Methodist women's basketball picks up a 73-65 win over Guilford College, in non-conference action, this Monday night in the March F. Riddle Center.
Not only did Drake set a new mark in points, but also put her name in the Monarchs history book. With her seven made threes in the contest, she set the new single-game record for most made three-pointers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A back-and-forth of swapping points was how the game started off before the Quakers scored eight unanswered points to take a 14-7 advantage. Methodist than used their own 6-0 run to get right back into the game. A basket by Melissa D'Oleo pushed the Monarchs back in front 19-18, in the closing seconds of the first.
- Three minutes into the second, Guilford tied the contest up at 22-22 but back-to-back jumpers by Kiley Hicks and Drake gave Methodist the lead once again. Midway through the period, the Quakers got within one until the Monarchs closed out the final four minutes and thirty seconds on a 9-2 run to take a 35-27 advantage at the break.
- Guilford came out of halftime on a mission when they scored the first eight points of the third to tie the game again at 35 all. After missing the first five shots of the second half, Drake would knock down a three to end the scoring drought. Methodist than scored eight unanswered points in over three and half minutes to put some distance between their score and the Quakers, leading up to 51-42 in the end.
- Guilford started the fourth quarter in style by knocking down a three to get back within two possessions. Aneesa Irizarry made it three possessions again on a fast break bucket than converting the and-one after the foul. The highlight of the frame though was at the 3:03 mark when Drake connected on the record-breaking shot from downtown to put the Monarchs up 69-54.
- The Quaker would go on another 7-0 run to get the deficit back to within single digits but a jumper by Trinity Ross put an end to a comeback attempt.
MORE TO IT
- Leading all scorers was Lindsay Gauldin of Guilford with 32 points. Drake's 29 points was team-high for Methodist.
- Not only was Drake getting it done offensively, she made presence known on defense by racking up a career-high five steals.
