HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs stayed neck and neck with the Captains early in the first quarter. Aniyah Tate's quick lay-up on a fast break from an assist by Aneesa Irizarry tied the game 4-4. After exchanging baskets between CNU, Methodist took the lead 8-6 mid way through the quarter with Emmenia Lynch's mid-range jumper. The Captains ramped up the pressure, leaking out on a twenty point run, eventually ending the first quarter up 27-10.
- Methodist opened the second quarter looking to close the gap but Christopher Newport's stingy defense limited the Monarchs shots. Kiley Hicks scored eight of the Monarch's eleven total points for the period, as they were unable to close the gap. The Captains go into the locker room up 49-21.
- A two-point jumper in the paint for Zytipha Joines gave Methodist their first two points of the new half. Joines also added a three pointer, helping Methodist to reach thirty points. With the Monarchs now down 63-30, CNU got on an eight-point run stretching the lead to 73-33. Hannah Evans knocked down a three just before the frame ended, with an assist by Hicks.
- Methodist battled until the end with freshman Tatyana Jordan scoring her first collegiate point from the line. Tay Taborn added a jump shot, scoring the Monarchs final points with an assist from Melissa D'Oleo.

- The Captains full court pressure and aggressive trapping caused the Monarchs 35 turnovers. This led to 42 points for Christopher Newport, which was a little over 42% of the team's total points.
- CNU's 52 points scored in the paint showed the team's ability to use take advantage of their size inside the paint and score off fast breaks, caused by full court pressure.
- The Monarch's capitalized on their chances at the free throw line. They converted on 70% of their trips to the charity strip while the Captains only made 59.1% of their shots.
