Methodist Reaches Double Digit Wins After Beating Brevard

BREVARD, N.C.  Methodist women's soccer played in a USA South Athletic Conference contest against Brevard College on Saturday afternoon. Following a 2-0 road win over the Tornadoes at Ives-Lemel Family Field, the Monarchs remain undefeated in league action with a perfect 6-0 mark.

Methodist now evens the series, 2-2, in the history between the Monarchs and Brevard.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. Brevard, 2-0
Records: Methodist 10-2-1 (6-0 USA South), Brevard 7-4-4 (0-2-3)
Location: Ives-Lemel Family Field, Brevard, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game went into halftime with neither team scoring. Methodist had plenty of chance though to score as seven of their 12 first half shots were on target.
  • The scoreless tie was broken in the 67th minute by Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber. Lourenco-Shiber found the back of the net following two consecutive passes from teammates Corrine Shovlain and Harris Barr.
  • Kelsey Burge would be on the receiving end of a Rianna Orello pass that led to that other Monarch goal. Orello was running up the sideline before crossing the ball just inside the 18-yard box. Burge was right there in the middle for the one timer, in the 83rd minute.
STAT FACTS
  • Lourenco-Shiber led the game with six shot, five of which reached net. Laura Harris and Orello each also had four or more shots in the match, respectively five and four with two shots on goal apiece.
  • Mackenzie Lozano of the Tornadoes had a game-high 10 saves in the loss. For Methodist, Mary Newman and Carolina Simpkins split time in net and each made two saves.
UP NEXT
  • Methodist does not play again until Homecoming weekend, when the team hosts North Carolina Wesleyan University next Saturday in USA South action. This 6 PM game will also be Senior Night for the women's soccer team.
  • Brevard wraps up a three-game homestand on Wednesday as Salem College makes the trip out to Brevard, North Carolina for a USA South game.
