FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's soccer was on their home pitch on Saturday against USA South Athletic Conference foe North Carolina Wesleyan University. The Monarchs put together an impressive 5-1 win over the Battling Bishops at Duggins Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- N.C. Wesleyan registered the first goal of the game in 29th minute. Mariah Berkovich got to an open ball before shooting it past the keeper into the back corner of the far post.
- Almost a minute later, Baylor Burch tied the game with a header. Methodist was on a corner kick, where Maddie Hernandez made a beautiful lob pass to the front of the net. From their Burch used her height to go over everyone and knock in the equalizer.
- Game-winning goal came in the 42nd minute off the foot of Natalia Marshall-Hewitt. On another corner kick, Alyssa Morrell sent the ball into the box where it took one bounce before reaching Marshall-Hewitt for the score.
- Just 30 seconds later, the Monarchs scored their third goal. Rianna Orello put into the net after receiving a pass from her teammate Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber.
- Before the match could reach halftime a fourth Methodist goal was registered. This time off the foot of Corrine Shovlain, who got the ball off a touch pass from Orello, in the 45th minute.
- The Monarchs final goal of the night came from Lourenco-Shiber in the 53rd minute, after Marshall-Hewitt passed it off to her.
STAT FACTS
- Methodist outshot the Battling Bishops 21 to 10, including eight to four in shots on goal.
- With today's victory, Mary Newman improves to 9-1 on the year (matching her record from a season ago).
- This is the fifth time this year that the Monarchs have scored five or more goals in a game.
