Lourenco-Shiber Scored Twice in Win Over Pacers

CARY, N.C.  Methodist women's soccer team scored four consecutive goals in a come from behind USA South Athletic Conference game on Wednesday evening. The Monarchs went on the road to take on William Peace University and were to come away with a 4-2 win at WakeMed Park.

Methodist now improves to 23-0 all-time against the Pacers.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. William Peace, 4-2
Records: Methodist 8-2-1 (4-0 USA South), William Peace 6-2 (0-1)
Location: WakeMed Park, Cary, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs were in some unfamiliar territory at the start of this contest. Victoria Finklea of William Peace stole the ball from a Methodist defender and ran down field before scoring the first goal just five minutes into the game.
  • Even though the Monarchs were down that did not change their offensive strategy as they had multiple changes to tie it up. Methodist would finally do so in the 39th minute as Madison Brunson was able to beat the William Peace keeper in a one-on-one situation.
  • Senior Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber became the difference maker in putting the Monarchs in a position to win. Less than two minutes into the second half, she scored her first of two goals off a feed from Laura Harris. Lourenco-Shiber's second score came four minutes later after Rianna Orello got the ball to her.
  • For safe measure Natalia Marshall-Hewitt tallied an insurance goal in 75th minute.
  • The Pacers registered the final goal of the contest in the 78th minute, as Delaney Kyra passed it off Raine Greene before finding the back of the net.
STAT FACTS
  • For Lourenco-Shiber, her two scores in a same game matches her career-high. She did this only one other time back when she was a freshman against Averett University.
  • Methodist offense looked to be a little bit impatient at times with being offsides nine different times throughout the match.
  • The Monarchs took 18 shots with 11 of those reaching net compared to William Peace that only had five shots, four on target.
