FREDERICKSBURG, Va. Methodist men's basketball traveled to No. 24 University of Mary Washington on Wednesday, in a non-conference matchup. After a close first half, the Eagles attacked a foul trouble Monarch quad to earn a 64-47 win in the William M. Anderson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jumping out to an 8-3 advantage was Mary Washington and eventually the Eagles expanded that lead to a 20-7 difference. The hot start by Mary Washington would come to a screeching halt down the stretch of the first half.
- A bucket by Clayton Coe brought Methodist back to within single digits of the lead, 20-11. Then back-to-back threes by De'Shaun Kee made it a five-point difference for the Monarchs. Montell Moore and Coe each scored four points in the last three minutes of period to give Methodist a 27-25 edge over the Eagles at the break.
- An early three by Andrew Rowson put Mary Washington down by one, 29-28, but Kee countered with another three to make a four-point difference. After tying the game twice, a Dorian Davis three-pointer gave the Eagles the lead again, 37-34. Mary Washington made it a three-possession contest with a couple of more threes and an additional basket.
- A quick 5-0 spurt by the Monarchs got them back down to within four, 45-41. The Eagle though registered the next seven points to make it 52-41. Methodist to bring the deficit back down to single digits on two different occasions, including a layup by Moore with four minutes left in the half. The Monarchs though could not get the necessary stops and instead kept sending Mary Washington to the free throw line.
MORE TO IT
- The Eagles went to the stripe a total of 33 times and converted 23 into points. Methodist took less than half as many free throws (10 of 14) as Mary Washington.
- Moore and Coe led the Monarchs in scoring, with 13 and 10 respectively. Coe also came down with a team-high eight boards.
