Methodist Wraps Up 2022 Season with Win Over Greensboro

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Before Methodist football team took the field against Greensboro College, the program honored 11 seniors that were playing in their final home game on Saturday. The Class of 2023 would leave Monarch Stadium on a high note as the Monarchs took down the Pride by a score of 48-23, with a couple of seniors making a big impact.

JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist def. Greensboro, 48-23
Records: Methodist 5-5 (4-3 USA South), Greensboro 1-8 (1-5)
Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams' offenses were able to move the ball on their respective first drive but came away empty on the scoreboard. Greensboro would get the scoring, with a 38 yard field goal by Marono Collins, on the team's third possession of the contest.
  • It would take until the second quarter but Methodist registered the first touchdown of the game, on a four yard pass from Brandon Bullins to senior Kobe Praylow. A couple of chuck rushing plays by senior Tyquan Eaddy and Keyshaun Pete got the Monarchs into Pride territory. A 21 yard completion to Praylow follow by a big run by Eaddy setup the touchdown.
  • Methodist would go up 14-3 just two plays later, when senior Roderic Christian Jr. picked off David Loughry II of Greensboro and returned it 22 yards for a pick six.
  • The Pride came right back with their own touchdown, an eight yard pass from Loughry II to Cale Matthews. On that drive Loughry II completed pass to five different receivers for 58 yards, including the final completions to Matthews.
  • The Monarchs took a 21-10 halftime lead after Bullins found Eaddy for a touchdown from seven yards out. Methodist got down there off the legs of Pete and Eaddy, with 48 and 15 rushing yards respectively.
  • On the first play to start the second half, Pete was handed the ball and he ran 63 yards up the gut for the score. The point after touchdown would go wide left to make it 27-10.
  • Midway through the third Greensboro got the score to a 10-point difference. Loughry II found an open Zach Atkinson, who burned the Monarch defense for an 80 yard touchdown. The Pride would get the ball right away afterwards when Jaden James forced a fumble and Max Steele recovered it.
  • Greensboro would walk away with no points on the turnover as the Pride went three-and-out. They punted the ball back to Methodist and a few plays later Bullins tossed a dime to A'Jani Mainer for a 73 yard catch and run for a touchdown, 34-17.
  • The ensuing Greensboro drive got deep into the Monarchs side of the field. The Pride got as close as Methodist 4-yard line but then Josh Hill intercepted an Alec Williams-Carr throw, in the end zone and returned it a yard.
  • Even with the Monarchs pinned back at their own 1-yard line, Methodist traveled the length of the field, on nine plays, to score a touchdown. This time is KJ Hicklin on the receiving end of an 18 yard pass from Bullins.
  • Each team score one last touchdown before the clock read triple zeros. The first came from Greensboro on an eight yard pass from Williams-Carr to Ryan Buchanan. Pete recorded the final score of the game for the Monarchs with a 27 yard run into the end zone.
MORE TO IT
  • With his 197 rushing yards tonight, Pete eclipse the 1,000 yard mark in a single-season. He is just the third Monarch to accomplish this feat and the first since 2018 (Vontre Howard - 1,335).
  • Praylow had a game-highs in receptions (13) and receiving yards (101). This puts his season total at 102 receptions for 1,253 yards, both school records.
  • The time of possession was actually a lot close than what the score might say. Methodist controlled the ball just under 31 minutes while the Pride had the ball a little over 29 minutes.
  • Christian Jr. led the way on defense for the Monarchs with eight tackles, an interception, a pass break-up, and a fumble recovery. Josh Hill, DaQuinton Grady and Jaysen Angulo all had six tackles for the next best on the team.
