FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist men's basketball took the court one last time at home, in the year 2022, as the team played Virginia Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs struggled with hanging onto the ball in the second half, which led to a 63-50 home loss to the Marlins in the March F. Riddle Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Virginia Wesleyan went up by three, after Eric Rowland knocked a shot down from behind the arc, but then T.J. East scored the next two baskets for Methodist to give the Monarchs their first lead of the contest. Methodist would find themselves up, 12-7, following a 6-0 run by the duo of Brone Brinson and East.
- Eventually Khai Seargeant tied the ball game up for the Marlins, with a three ball, and then registered the next bucket to put Virginia Wesleyan back in front, 18-16. Following a four-point spurt by the Monarchs, four more lead changes occurred before the Marlins took a slight 28-25 advantage at the half.
- The second half began with Methodist coming out on an 8-0 run to take a 33-28 lead. A couple of three-pointers by Omari Deveaux and Joey Lee allowed Virginia Wesleyan to go up again, 41-37. The Monarchs cut the score down to one but a five-point swing by the Marlins gave them a 49-43 edge.
- Methodist would make it a four-point game a few more times but Virginia Wesleyan kept responding back, including a three by Seargeant to put the Marlins up by nine. The final minutes of the contest turned into the Monarchs trying to get quick shots and then force Virginia Wesleyan to make free throws. Methodist was unable though to make any more baskets down the stretch.

- Brinson and East each finished with 12 points, which was tied for the team lead. The next closest Monarchs was Nehemiah McClain with six.
- Methodist narrowly controlled the battle of the boards, 43 to 41, over the Marlins. East's nine rebounds led the team as he nearly misses a double-double.
- Both squads reached double-digit turnovers in the game, Monarchs with 19 and 13 for Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins though converted those turnovers into more points than Methodist, respectively 23 to 10.

Methodist will get some time off again to until the team travels Roanoke, Va. to play in the Cregger Invitational, December 29-30. The Monarchs first match-up is against the host school Roanoke College at 12 pm.
