GREENSBORO, N.C. Methodist women's basketball faced off with Guilford College on Friday afternoon for a non-conference game. With the help of a big first quarter, the Quakers were able to claim a 75-64 victory over the Monarchs in the Ragan-Brown Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist was edging out Guilford 4-2 early on until the Quakers went on to score 14 unanswered points. A combination of missed shots and turnovers resulted in the Monarch offense going cold during that span. Methodist would be down 20-7 at the end of the first quarter.
- Aniyah Tate recorded the first five points for the Monarchs to begin the second period. Shortly after Jillian Peterson joined the fray with a three-pointer to get the deficit down to 11 points, 26-15. A four-point spurt by Melissa D'Oleo and Kiley Hicks brought Methodist to within single digits again, 31-22. Guilford was still able to take a 34-26 lead into the locker room.
- The third period began with both teams going shot for shot. Eventually the Quakers were able to score four consecutive points but the Monarchs got majority of those points back following a made three by Emmenia Lynch. Guilford finished the third stanza strong by registering six straight points to close it out and take a 62-47 lead.
- The Quakers opened the fourth with a three but Peterson matched that with her own shot from downtown for Methodist. After that each side went to the free throw line four time and made all four. The remainder of the game witnessed the two squads exchanging points until the Monarchs scored the last four points of the game.

- Peterson had a team-high 14 points for Methodist, while Hicks recorded her third double-double this season.
- Both teams capitalized on the turnovers they forced. Guilford scored 25 of their points off turnovers while the Monarchs registered 20.

Methodist returns to their home court inside the March F. Riddle Center on Wednesday. The Monarchs will play William Peace University in conference play with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
