FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist kicked off its season opener at home on Saturday afternoon, hosting St. Andrews University in a non-conference doubleheader. The Monarchs won the first game, 6-5, at Price Field before coming up short in the second game by a score of 8-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The day's opener saw the Monarchs jump out on a 6-0 lead in the first four innings of Game 1. Haley Fethke batted in two RBI's off a single in the first inning and a double to right center in the fourth inning. Bethany Junker also added two RBI's off a double to right center.
- The Knights fought their way back into the game, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning to come within one run of Methodist's lead. In the top of the seventh, Heidi Layne was brought in to close out the game and preserve the Monarchs Game 1 win.
- St. Andrews turned around and got the bats rolling early in Game 2, hitting in two runs in the first inning. Maria Kollar's two RBI's in the third and seventh innings scored half of Methodist's runs but the Knights' strong hitting was too far out of reach for the Monarchs.
Stat Facts
- In Game 1, Junker and Fethke led the team with three hits and two RBI's. Alexandra Edwards tallied two hits.
- Brittany Jones had four strikeouts in Game 1 through 5.1 innings of work while allowing two earned runs.
