HOW IT HAPPENED
- In Game 1, the Monarchs scored the first run of the game in the third inning off of a double to right center field from Kayleigh Raynor. The Hornets answered in the bottom of the fifth, knocking out a single-run homer to tie the game 1-1.
- The game remained tied in the seventh inning and required extra innings to pronounce a winner. Both teams started each half inning with a runner on second base but neither team could get the runner to score until Methodist scratched the go-ahead run from Maria Kollar's hit to get Raynor home in the top of the ninth. The Monarchs went three up three down in bottom of the ninth to secure the win.
- Methodist's momentum carried over into Game 2, scoring the first run in the first inning off a double from Taylor Jones to get Raynor all the way around from first to home. After the first two innings, the Monarchs went flat, and Lynchburg found their groove scoring all nine runs during the fourth and fifth innings. Methodist could not overcome the eight-run deficit and lost in Game 2 of the doubleheader.
