FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist baseball was cruising along until rough seventh inning would lead to a 18-14 defeat to Washington (Md.) College, in a non-conference contest, on Sunday afternoon for the last game of the Diamond Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Shoremen struck first in the top of the first by taking a 3-0 advantage, but for the fifth game in a row the Monarchs would score in the bottom half of the inning to go up 4-3.
- Heading into the fifth, Methodist was up 7-5 before tacking on four additional runs, with Will Dagenhart doubling down the left field line to bring two of those runners in, for an 11-5 lead.
- Then came the top of the seventh inning, which started off with the first six Washington batters reaching base and five of those coming around to score. The Monarchs would eventually get out of the inning but until the Shoremen tallied six more to take a 16-11 lead.
- Methodist rallied back a little by getting three more total runs in both the 7th & 8th. Washington got insurance two runs in the top of the 9th before completing the come from behind win.
STAT FACTS
- A total of 13 pitchers were used both the two squads. The Shoremen threw out six guys while the Monarchs used seven.
- Chris Baker and Noah Iseman each had three hits & 4+ RBIs. Leading Methodist was Spencer Nelson with three hits as well, while bringing in two runners.
- For the game, a combine 32 runs and 33 hits were registered.
