Monarchs Come up Short in Rally Attempt to Quakers

GREENSBORO, N.C. The Monarchs traveled to Greensboro, N.C. on Tuesday evening for a non-conference game against the Guilford Quakers, and came up short after a hard fought battle between the two teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Guilford's offense got off to a quick start, scoring three back-to-back goals in the early minutes. After a Quaker penalty, the Monarchs took advantage in the man-up situation and dropped in a goal from Ryan Kavounis. Methodist trailed by as many as three goals in the first half and just before the end of the second quarter, Cy Horner scored his second goal of the evening to make it 7-6 Guilford.
  • The Quakers went on to score three goals in the third quarter, two by Nick Honkomp himself, to the Monarchs' one. The lone goal in the third was snagged in by Hunter Vaughan with an assist from Matt Pemberton.
  • In a man-down situation for Methodist early in the final fifteen minutes, Pemberton knocked in a goal off of a pass from Carter Favreau to make it 10-8. Guilford won the next face-off and in their next possession, Cameron Brink saved three straight shots by the Quakers before Joseph Hivonen would sneak one by.
  • In an attempt to rally back late in the fourth quarter, the clock became the Monarchs' enemy and in the end ran out of time.
