FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's lacrosse welcomed Southern Virginia University to Monarch Stadium for the first time on Thursday afternoon, opening their USA South Conference play with a loss to the Knights, 16-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Off the jump, the Knights marked their first goal in the opening possession of the first frame. Two minutes later, the Monarchs answered, matching Southern Virginia with a free position goal by Payton Jones.
- Methodist took the lead 2-1 with a goal from Alaijah Ward in man-up situation after the Knights received their first yellow card. After Southern Virginia took their second lead of the game, 3-2, Tia Marlinghaus tied it back up at three all.
- The Monarchs trailed for the remainder of the first half, finishing the second quarter down 5-4.
- Methodist kept Southern Virginia within reach in the third quarter and tied the game six all with goal by Rosa Williams.
- From there, the Knights went a seven-goal run between the third and fourth quarters to extend their lead to 13-6. The Monarchs were unable to build their momentum back and only scored two more goals to end the game, 16-8 Southern Virginia.
