THE ESSENTIALS
Final results: William Peace def. Methodist, 18-14
Records: Methodist 11-6 (1-1 USA So.), William Peace 11-8 (1-1)
Location: Armstrong-Shelley Field; Fayetteville, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pacers teed off in their first two at bats to score three runs, but Methodist's strong second inning presence at the plate rattled the William Peace defense. A combination of Monarch hits and Pacer errors led to six runs, to make it 6-3, Methodist.
- Will Dagenhart's triple into the right field corner, gave Justin Blunt plenty of time to score the tying run at 3-3 in the bottom of the second, before taking the three-run lead.
- Through the third and fifth innings, both teams switched off taking the lead and closed out the fifth inning 11 all after a Wesley Hall double to right center field. William Peace scored three runs in the sixth, after the Monarchs' two pitching changes, but Methodist bounced back and tied the game for the third time at 14.
- In the top of the eighth, the Pacers took a one run lead from a hit through the right-side gap. One inning later, they extended to a two-run lead (16-14). With one out and runners on first and second, Christian Yarborough entered the game to pinch run for Hall, adding more speed on the bases. A wild pitch advanced Jacob Austin to third and Yarborough to second but a strikeout and pop fly left runners on base.
STAT FACTS
- A total of 11 pitchers were used between the two squads. The Pacers threw out five guys while the Monarchs used six.
- It was a tough day in the field for both squads, but even with the Pacers' seven fielding errors the Monarchs were unable to capitalize at the plate and were out hit by William Peace, 13-9.
