Monarchs Had Successful First Day One at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.  Methodist's women's tennis team began its spring trip with two victories Monday afternoon. Splitting into two squads, one defeated Roanoke College, 8-1, and the other clinched a 5-4 win over Lake Forest College (Ill.)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs swept doubles action to open the Roanoke match, as Abby Caddick and Kamdyn Balko captured the No. 1 spot win. Jill Lawrence and Veva Willocks at No. 2 doubles followed with the win and the sweep was complete with a win at No. 3 from Alex Pratt and Hannah Higgins.
  • Caddick had a team best in singles beating opponent Lucy Collins 6-0, 6-1.
  • Against Lake Forest at the Resort, Methodist doubles won two out of the three matches. Valeria Matute and Megan Kidd finished with an 8-4 win in the No. 1 slot, along with Charlize Martinez and Allison Hays securing the second doubles win at the No. 3.
  • In the singles performance, it came down to No. 3 Luciana Forma's match. The Monarchs and Black Bears were tied 4-4 going into the final set of Forma's match. After dropping the first, 2-6, Forma fought back in the second to win 7-6, forcing a tie breaker. Forma beat opponent Sara Lopez 10-6 in the third set to clinch the Monarchs' win over Lake Forest.
UP NEXT
It's right back on the courts Wednesday for another split squad action at 11:30 a.m., squaring off against Drew University and Gordon College.
