HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. The Methodist women's tennis team closed out their spring break trip on a high note, getting two big wins Wednesday morning. The Monarchs swept aside Gordon College, 7-2, and Drew University 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist rolled through the doubles matches against Gordon as Alex Pratt and Hannah Higgins had a team best in the 3-doubles slot, beating their opponent handily, 8-1. Higgins moved on to play singles, defeating opponent Joey Kellner, 6-3 and 6-1.
- As for the squad facing Drew, the Monarchs went two for three in doubles, with Jill Lawrence and Veva Willocks winning 8-3 in the No. 2 slot and Charlize Martinez and Allison Hays winning 8-4 in the No. 3 spot. In the singles, three Monarchs helped secure Methodist's win, playing in the two, three and four spots. Valeria Matute (No.2) and Veva Willocks (No. 4) both won their matches 6-1, 6-2, while Megan Kidd (No. 3) won 6-4, 6-3 over her opponent.

Methodist has a week break before starting conference play on Saturday, March 19, as the team travels to Staunton, Virginia to take on the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin at 11 a.m.
