Strong Second Quarter Pushes Methodist Past Pfeiffer

RALEIGH, N.C.  Methodist women's lacrosse traveled to Misenheimer, N.C. on Tuesday afternoon for a USA South Athletic Conference match-up with Pfeiffer University and brought home a 21-12 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs kicked it off with the first goal of the game at the 13-minute mark from Rosa Williams to Kayla Nee. Both teams exchanged goals through the first quarter, as Pfeiffer closed the quarter with a goal to tie the game at three all.
  • The second quarter witnessed a lot of net action from Methodist. Six different Monarchs contributed to the eight goals scored. Erika Henry found Williams for a goal which was followed by a draw control win by Tia Marlinghaus. 30 seconds later, Henry put one to the back of the net to put Methodist up 8-4.
  • The Monarchs were up 12-6 going into the second half, but right off the jump, Pfeiffer managed to sneak one past the defense. This did not stop Methodist, as the offense dominated, winning every draw control following each goal scored in the third quarter.
  • Three minutes into the final frame, Methodist had scored two goals, one from Alaijah Ward and one from Keegan Foyles off a free position shot which allowed for a 10-goal running clock.
  • After two back-to-back shot attempts from the Monarchs, Williams scored the final goal of the game to win 21-12. The 21 goals scored recorded a new season-high for the team.

STAT FACTS
  • Kayla Nee and Foyles led the team with five goals each, followed by Mikayla Ramos with three.
  • Methodist won 21 draw controls to Pfeiffer's 15, with Julee Delellis contributing to nine of the wins and Marlinghaus contributing to seven.
  • Delellis overall had a solid performance not only in draw controls, but she also tallied one goal, six ground balls and four caused turnovers to lead the team in two stat columns.
  • Both goalies saw action during the game, as Jem Golombeski and Ashley Fuentes split halves and matched with six saves.
  • Methodist outshot Pfeiffer, 44 to 27 with 37 of the 44 shots being on target.

UP NEXT
Methodist is back at Monarch Stadium on Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m. for the team's final regular season game at home. The Monarchs will look to take on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan in a USA South Athletic Conference match-up.
