Monarchs Run Away With Win on Senior Day!

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist women's lacrosse sent this year's senior class out on a high note by taking down North Carolina Wesleyan College 22-7 on Saturday afternoon. This was a USA South Athletic Conference contest for both squads as competed in Monarch Stadium.

Before the game, the Monarchs recognized their five seniors who were playing their final regular season game in front of a home crowd.

THE ESSENTIALS
Final results: Methodist def. N.C. Wesleyan, 22-7
Records: Methodist 7-7 (5-3 USA South), N.C. Wesleyan 4-12 (3-6)
Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was pretty much all Methodist from the gecko as the Monarchs tallied the first seven goals. Of those seven, it was the second score that received the second loudest cheers from the audience as senior Alaijah Ward dished it classmate Morgan Eggleston, who put it in the net.
  • The Battling Bishops broke up the Methodist run with their first goal of the day late in the first period. At the end of the first quarter, the Monarchs had a commanding 10-1 lead. By half time Methodist was up 15-2.
  • After the Monarchs scored the first goal of the third stanza, N.C. Wesleyan was able to find the back of the net twice to give themselves a little momentum. Methodist quickly put a stop to that by adding two more scores, 18-4, before heading into the last frame.
  • The fourth saw the Monarchs record four more goals to the Battling Bishops three. The major highlight of this quarter was at the end when senior Danielle Jones got the pass from Keegan Foyles and put it past the keeper. The whole stadium and sideline went wild as Jones registered her first collegiate goal!
STAT FACTS
  • Rosa Williams of Methodist paced all scorers with four goals. Foyles and Ward had great days themselves with each tallying three goals and three assists.
  • The amount of shots taken by the Monarchs was grossly different from the Battling Bishops. Methodist fired away 45 times with 31 of those making frame, and N.C. Wesleyan only mustard nine shots but all nine were on target.
UP NEXT
  • Methodist has the next week off until Friday, April 22, when the team begins a three-game away USA South series with Pfeiffer University, with first pitch scheduled for 4 PM.
  • N.C. Wesleyan plays their final regular season game next Saturday on the road against Pfeiffer University in USA South action at 12 p.m.
