DANVILLE, Va. Methodist baseball took home the weekend sweep against Averett University following the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon winning the first game 5-2 followed by a 9-4 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In Game 1, Averett marked the first tick on the board in the bottom of the fourth from a single to left field to send the lone runner on third home.
- The Monarchs matched the Cougars in the top of the seventh after a wild pitch by Averett's pitcher to score Rob Wilkerson from third. Methodist later took the lead in the top of the ninth after hitting three hits to score four runs, all of which were singles.
- The Monarchs allowed one run in the bottom of the ninth to close out the win, 5-2.
- In Game 2, Averett opened the game with another first run on the board in the bottom of the third before Methodist matched the score in the top of the sixth to tie the game one all.
- The Monarchs' bats opened up through the last three innings as the team hit nine hits to score eight runs. The Cougars defense committed two errors in the top of the seventh which contributed to two runs for Methodist.
- Averett attempted to comeback but could only score three runs as the Monarchs got the final out to take the game, 9-4.
STAT FACTS
- Stancil Bowles led the team with three hits and two RBIs for the day followed by Spencer Nelson with three hits and one RBI.
- Ryan Hill and Austin Skipper both pitched 8.0 innings on the day to earn wins, while Chase Carroll earned a save for Game 1.
- The hit line between both teams for both games were fairly even as Game 1 saw each team get seven hits followed by Methodist with 11 and Averett with eight in Game 2.
