MISENHEIMER, N.C. In a 10-inning contest, Methodist baseball dropped their first game, 5-4, of a three-game series to Pfeiffer University on Friday evening. This was a USA South Athletic Conference matchup between these two teams as they played at Joe Ferebee Field today.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs capitalized on an early Falcons mistake, after Christian Yarbrough led the game off by reaching on a field error. Yarbrough would come around to score on an RBI single by Wesley Hall.
- Each side tallied a run in third to make the score 2-1, in favor of Methodist. During the top half, Spencer Nelson smacked a double down the right field line to drive in one run before Pfeiffer recorded three hits in the bottom half to plate one.
- An RBI single in the fourth allowed the Falcons to tie the ball game up then two innings later take their first lead of the contest, 3-2, off a passed ball.
- The Monarchs knotted it at three apiece in the seventh but were able to go back on top, 4-3, in the eighth with a Justin Blunt single to bring in the runner on third base.
- Down by one in the ninth, the Falcons took advantage of a Methodist wild pitch to even up the score. Pfeiffer would go on to upset the Monarchs by hitting a walk-off home run, in extras.
STAT FACTS
- The Monarchs had plenty of chances to score more runs as they left 11 runners on base.
- Nelson, Yarbrough, and Gavin Wheeler led the team with two hits each, with Nelson & Yarbrough registering the only extra-base hits, a double a piece, for Methodist in this one.
- Though this is not an official stat by the NCAA, Monarchs starter William St. Leger recorded a quality start by scattering eight hits and allowing three runs (two earned) in seven innings of work, while punching out five Falcons and issuing one free pass.
