Monarchs Came Up Short in Close Match With Knights

BUENA VISTA, Va.  Methodist men's tennis traveled to Buena Vista, Virginia on Friday afternoon where they took on some tough competition against the Knights of Southern Virginia.
 
The teams kept it interesting with three matches going into tie breakers and two matches being retired before dropping the overall match by one point to the Knights, 5-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist started their doubles matches winning one of the three contests. The lone win came from duo, Jordan Theron, and Quinn McNamara 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles.
  • Henry Murray and Luke Laney competed in the No. 2 slot and put up a strong fight against opponents Marcos Dias and Benton Drake to go into a tie breaker. Unfortunately, the tie break was not in Murray or Laney's favor as the pair lost 7-5.
  • The Monarchs and Knights split the singles matches as Methodist's No. 1, 2 & 3 singles teams took their individual victories.
  • Theron reported the first win after opponent Dias had to retire from the match, giving Theron the automatic win.
  • Murray and McNamara both went extra sets in their singles matches, as Murray won 6-1 in the first set, dropped the second set 4-6 and came back to win the third set 6-3.  McNamara dropped his first set 7-6 and then won the second and third sets 6-3, and 10-6 respectively.
