HOW IT HAPPENED
- By the end of the first inning, the Falcons had a 1-0 advantage over the Monarchs. After getting two outs, the third Pfeiffer batter drew a walk and eventually got to third, by stealing second and then advancing on an error, before scoring off a hit.
- It would a few innings until Methodist finally got their first run but they were able to do so and took the lead in the fifth. With two ducks on the pond at second and third, Jacob Austin drove the ball to the outfield to allow both runners to come around.
- The Monarchs plated one more run off a sacrifice fly by Spencer Nelson to make it 3-1.
- The seventh saw both sides tally at least one score. First Rob Wilkerson brought in a couple with a 2-RBI single for Methodist followed by the Falcons tacking on one run during their at-bats to make it 5-2.
- In the ninth, the Monarchs added on two more insurance runs before getting the final three Pfeiffer outs.
STAT FACTS
- Today Methodist went with the one-two combo of Austin Skipper and Tanner Freeland on the mound. Skipper got the start, and the win, by going seven strong innings only allowing two runs (one earned) off six hits with four Ks and three walks. Freeland tossed the last two and struck out two batters, along with getting the save.
- Austin, Wilkerson, and Christian Yarbrough had at least two hits apiece, with Austin leading the team/game with three. Austin and Wilkerson would each finish with two RBIs as well.
- The Monarchs were running wild on the base path as they cumulated seven stolen bases this afternoon.
