Monarchs End Their Season on a High Note

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  After an almost two-hour weather delay mid-way through the game, Methodist men's lacrosse handled business at Huntingdon College, taking the team's last win of the USA South regular season, 16-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED.
  • The senior duo, Matt Pemberton and Hunter Vaughan scored the Monarchs first three goals in the first quarter, ending the quarter tied at three all.
  • The duo kept it rolling in the second quarter as Pemberton accounted for two of the four goals. The new face in the scoring mix was Nate Moore who scored in the final 43 seconds of the first half to make it 7-5.
  • Huntingdon knocked one in early in the third quarter which led to an exchange in goals between teams until the final 23 seconds. After Pemberton's goal (his fourth of the game), the game was delayed due to weather.
  • Following the weather delay, the Monarchs did not hold back in the final 15 minutes of play and outscored the Hawks, 6-3.
MORE NUMBERS.
  • Pemberton had a field day as he recorded a new season-high seven goals and seven points to lead the team. Vaughan followed with four goals.
  • Cy Horner posted a new career-high in assists as he dished off four in the game.
  • In goal for the Monarchs was Jackson Bulkin who registered eight saves of the 18 shots faced and allowed 10 goals.
  • Huntingdon recorded more face-off wins than Methodist but only by two, along with more ground balls and more shots for the game.
  • The Monarchs were aggressive on defense as the team had four penalties to the Hawks' one.
