FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist men's tennis has a tough go around against nationally ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Battling Bishops took down the Monarchs 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- N.C. Wesleyan started the afternoon with a double's win as Max Robinson & Roberto Puig defeated Luke Laney & Henry Murray 8-1. No. 3 doubles pit AJ Rogers & Harrison Bitzberger against John Falke & Thato Holmes, where the Monarchs duo fell to their counterparts 8-2.
- The Battling Bishops would sweep all the doubles flights after Jhonny Acosta & Juan Vallejo bested Jordan Theron & Quinn McNamara 8-4.
- Things did not fare better for Methodist in singles with Rogers going down 6-0 in each set to Augusto Roca. Brent Edwards of the Monarchs lost his flight to Diego Segovia 6-0, 6-1.
- McNarama went down by a pair of 6-1 set scores to Puig in No. 3 singles. Laney put up a good showing against Luca Knese but fell by scores of 6-3 & 6-2.
- In No. 2 singles, Murray lost set one 6-2 to Vallejo but came back to win the second set in a tie breaker, 7-5, by a score of 7-6. This forced a super tie breaker where Murray fought hard, in the end though it was Vallejo who left victorious by winning 12-10.
- Methodist's lone win came in No. 1 singles with Theron defeating Falke. Theron took the first set 6-1 before having to go into a tie breaker, which Falke lost 7-2, for set two for Theron to claim a 7-6 set and the flight.

- Methodists only has a few days in between until their next competition, which is on April 8. The Monarchs get a visit from Virginia Wesleyan University with match time set for 3 p.m.
- N.C. Wesleyan will also be playing on April 8 as they head to Mary Baldwin University for a USA South bout at 3 p.m.
