VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. Methodist women's soccer took their first loss of the season in their first game at the Captains Classic, hosted by Christopher Newport University. Virginia Wesleyan University posed a 4-0 non-conference victory over the Monarchs Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Monarchs offense struggled to get in a rhythm on Saturday morning, only taking six shots to the Marlins 18.
- Virginia Wesleyan scored their first goal late in the first half to go up 1-0.
- Methodist's three shots on goal came in the second half, first from Rachel Johnson at the 62nd minute mark, followed by a free kick on target, 18 minutes later, from Madison Hoopes.
- Camaryn Piper took the Monarchs final shot of the game with an attempt to put one on the board for Methodist, but a straight drive to the Marlins goalkeeper kept the Monarchs score at zero.
- Virginia Wesleyan went on to score three more goals in the second half, two of which were within a four minute time frame.
MORE TO IT
- Both starting goalie Mary Newman as well as Kaylea Carter, who took over between the pipes at the start of the second half, would finish with three saves.
- Virginia Wesleyan's Rachel Quigley earned the win for the Marlins.
- Only four corners were taken between both teams during the game, as Methodist took one and Virginia Wesleyan took three.
