Monarchs Steamroll the Bruins

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Methodist women's soccer was victorious at Duggins Soccer Stadium, defeating Bob Jones University, 5-0, Satruday evening in non-conference action. 

Methodist dominated the game with a 19-8 advantage in shots taken on the day. Senior Laura Harris scored two goals while senior Tatiana Lourneco-Shiber had three assists.for the Monarchs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Methodist took advantage of the early chance in the first three minutes of the game with a Corrine Shovlain goal assisted by Rianna Orello for the Monarchs' first goal.

  • Lourenco-Shiber scored off of a goalie deflection to put the monarchs ahead 2-0 going into halftime.

  • Three minutes into the second half, Madison Brunson capitalized on a pass from Lourenco-Shiber to put Methodist on top 3-0.

  • Harris then tallied back-to-back goals within seconds of each other, both assisted by Lourenco-Shiber to give the Monarchs a 5-0 lead, which would prove to be too much for the Bruins.

STAT FACTS

  • Methodist outshot Bob Jones 18-9, and had 12 shots on goal compared to the Bruins four.

  • It was a dull time in goal for keepers Mary Newman and Caroline Simpkins. Both keepers recorded two saves.

  • Harris has three games this season in which she has scored two goals.She currently leads the team with six goals.
