Final score: Methodist def. Salem, 9-0
Records: Methodist 7-2-1 (3-0 USA South), Salem 4-5 (0-1)
Location: Salem Soccer Field, Winston-Salem, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tatiana Lourenco-Shiber recorded the first, and eventual game-winner, goal in the 20th minute. At the top of the goalie box, Lourenco-Shiber passed the ball off to her teammate Laura Harris than Harris quickly passed it back to Lourenco-Shiber, who would beat the keeper to her left.
- The other two goals in the first half came from Alyssa Morrell and Natalia Marshall-Hewitt. A Madison Hoopes corner kick found Morrell in the middle for a header into the top corner of the net. Marshall-Hewitt put one back the goalie after receiving a pass from Rachel Johnson.
- Corrine Shovlain was the only Methodist player to have a multi-goal game. Rianna Orello saw an open Shovlain and sent a long through ball. Shovlain was able to get a touch and sneak it past a charging goalie. The second one was off a deflection that saw Salem's goalie make one save but could not corral it and Shovlain made her pay for it.
- After assisting on two goals, Harris got the on board herself by stealing the ball from a defender and then kicking it past the keeper's right.
- A couple of Monarchs tallied their first goals of the season. First was Charlie Oldham, who kicked it between a defender and the goalie to register her first collegiate goal of her career. The other was Johnson on a tremendous long shot from about 25 yards out after receiving a pass from Harris Barr.
- Kelsey Burge and Kate Herndon connected with each other for the final goal. Herndon crossed the ball toward the net and Burge finished it off with a header.
