HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs fell behind in the first set, but a kill by Jamie Holton and two more by Jeanana Fowler tied the score at 6-6. With Methodist down 10-8, it was Aniyah Tate and Hannah Hewett who each recorded a kill to even the score again. Taking a 14-13 advantage, the Monarchs fended off the Falcons to hold onto a slim lead. A four-point streak with kills by Holton (2), Fowler and Tate put Methodist ahead, 21-16, and the Monarchs surged to a set victory.
  • Savannah Hovander recorded Methodist's first three points to start the second set, and the Monarchs flipped a 4-2 deficit into an 8-5 lead. Kills by Fowler and Holton helped Methodist extend its lead, which became 12-6 after four straight points for the Monarchs. Controlling the tempo, Methodist continued to outscore the Falcons at the same rate, winning 13 of the final 19 points to take the second set. The Monarchs won the final four points of the set, which included kills by Holton, Fowler and Mahala Carter.
  • Hovander notched Methodist's first two points of the third set as the Monarchs jumped out to an 8-4 lead. Pfeiffer won five of the next seven points to inch within one, now trailing just 10-9, but a six-point run for the Monarchs pushed Methodist's lead to seven points (16-9). Hovander recorded her team's next three points with three more kills, making the score 19-12. Pfeiffer collected one final point before the Monarchs took the next six to end the match.
MORE TO IT
  • The Monarch attack was a team effort, with Savannah Hovander (14), Jamie Holton (13) and Jeanana Fowler (12) all recording double-digits in kills.
  • Methodist's hitting percentage of .321 is the team's second-highest clip this season, only behind the .351 rate in the 3-0 victory versus Greensboro.
  • Methodist's hitters were assisted by Hannah Hewett 41 times. As she does so often, she put the ball in the right places for her teammates to be successful.
